North Yorkshire Police is committed to providing an outstanding service to the public of York and North Yorkshire, to keep them safe and feeling safe. As part of that commitment, we will continue to have a strong presence in neighbourhoods and communities; this helps us to understand and be responsive to community needs and to build public trust and confidence.
As the Superintendent for the Harrogate area, I am very much committed to this. Working alongside me as a Senior Leadership Team, are three Chief Inspectors: Chief Inspectors Jo Crooks-Rea (responsible for the Response Teams), Simon Williamson (responsible for the Neighbourhood Policing Team) and Matt Wilkinson (Responsible for Crime). I hope that in due course and during future meetings that you will have the opportunity to meet them all.
At present our Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT) are made up of both PCSOs and police officers. They are led by Sergeants and 1 Inspector. They are very much focused on crime prevention activities.

We currently have several High Risk victims at risk of CCE who we have identified through MACE. We continue to work collaboratively with partners and engage with the individuals, families, partners, education and Children’s Social Care in order to reduce the risk and exposure to exploitation.
These victim have been frequenting Harrogate in company with other High Risk Victims at risk of CCE and in consequence to this, Op Buggy has been introduced to provide focus on a specific group of young persons believed to be at risk of criminal exploitation and to target perpetrators.
The Operation has already seen positive results and provides the necessary intelligence picture around these young persons and their risks and exposure to exploitation.
This is a protective security operation in response to the recent Terrorist attack at Golders Green. Police have increased presence and engagement within our identified vulnerable communities monitoring any tensions whilstconducting targeted patrolsto ensure any groups are reassured and feel safe to pray at their designated venues.
The team continue to gather information regarding County Lines drug activity and take positive action against those involved. With targeted high visibility and plain clothespatrols in known locations.
Op Frost
The team continue to build information regarding the movements of cross border criminality who target rural locations and/or theft of boilers/ heat pumps from new housing developments.
Knife crime is a national concernparticularly with youths.Our NPT teams often work with our school liaison officers to produce and deliver crime and safeguarding education at our local schools and colleges. We have a knife amnestybin in Ripon Market Place that is emptied on a regular basis removing potential future risks.
Our teams regularlyconduct impromptu welfarechecks on some or very vulnerable potential “Cuckoo” victims in company with Housing staff and the Community Safety Partnership Hub to ensure they get the support that they need and are as protected as well as much as is possible.

· Op Circumference – County Command Priority created to target Cross-border criminality from West Yorkshire travelling into Harrogate and Craven to commit burglaries. Pro-active patrols of the Harrogate area focusing on residential estates between the border with West Yorkshire and along the Leeds Road, Harrogate corridor and surrounding estates.
· Safer Town Centre: Collaborative approach with partner agencies to tackle town centre ASB / Streetdrinking and retailtheft. Has been in operation since April 2024 and provides dedicated and focused patrol to the town centre based on statistical analysis.
· Safeguarding Most Vulnerable - Visiting and safeguarding our most vulnerable victims of Domestic abuse, CSE / CCE and Cuckoo victims by actively targeting/disrupting the perpetrators and supporting victims.
